Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United are all challenging for the top four this season.

Paul Merson has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on 9th January on TalkSPORT, that he believes Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City will make the top four.

The former Arsenal midfielder was asked for his updated prediction on how the Premier League table would look at the end of the season.

And Merson admits that it is hugely difficult to predict the top four, with Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Liverpool all also hoping to claim a spot in the Champions League qualification places.

“I think Chelsea in the next couple of weeks have some difficult games, if they beat Sunderland and Leicester away they can kick on again,” Merson said.

“I definitely would say Chelsea in the top four, I also fancy Manchester United.

“When you watch City against West Ham how can they not finish in the top four?

“But whoever I say would be an absolute guess. Because I think it’s easy to make a case for Manchester United and Tottenham to finish in the top four, but I could also make a case for them to miss out.”

The top six in the Premier League appear to have pulled away from the rest of the pack this term, but two teams will be left disappointed at the end of the season.

As things stand, Chelsea lead the way and Liverpool are their closest rivals.

Tottenham are then in third place, after Mauricio Pochettino’s side beat the Blues in their most recent league fixture, and City occupy fourth spot.

Arsenal are in fifth, with United in sixth – but Jose Mourinho’s side have begun to hit form in recent weeks.
