Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in moving for Everton forward Ademola Lookman.
According to a report from the Daily Mirror from back in September, Tottenham are considering reviving their interest in Everton forward Ademola Lookman in January having initially missed out on the youngster when he made the £11 million move to Goodison Park.
Lookman appears to have an extremely bright future ahead of him – and he showed that by scoring a goal with his first touch in the Premier League, in the 4-0 win over Manchester City – but that had not tempted Ronald Koeman to use him often this term.
The 5-2 defeat against Arsenal at the weekend was the first time this season that the 20-year-old has played in the top flight, and he has not started a game in any competition since August.
With Everton struggling for goals throughout the campaign, and with no strikers stamping their authority in the squad, it was certainly a surprise that Lookman had featured so sparingly this term – even if Koeman deemed him to be more of a winger rather than a forward.
And so, perhaps Spurs may have been hoping that the pressure piling on Koeman did not result in the Dutchman being dismissed from his job before the January window.
It would be a major surprise if the new manager did not look to use Lookman more often given the excitement that he can provide, and that would surely dent Spurs’ hopes of landing him significantly.
But had Koeman remained and continued to use Lookman so rarely, surely the youngster would have been forgiven for considering his future.
And perhaps it would not have been out of the question to suggest if a good bid for the forward came in in January, Koeman may have been more likely to let him leave – especially if he felt that the funds were more likely to help him get the Toffees out of trouble – than any potential replacement will, so perhaps Tottenham will be disappointed that Koeman has now gone.
