Tottenham Hotspur wanted Mohamed Salah two years ago, so why didn’t they push for a move this summer?

Mohamed Salah has been a big success for Liverpool since signing in the summer from Roma, and is expected to play a big part against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Salah, 25, has scored seven goals and provided two assists in all competitions and become an instant hit at Anfield.

Tottenham will have to be at their best to shut him out, and hope he does not haunt them as he did previously.

Salah scored the goals for Basel to knock Spurs out of the Europa League in 2013, in Gareth Bale’s final season in North London.

Two years later, the Evening Standard reported Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino was keen to sign Salah after his struggle for game time at Chelsea, but the clubs were not prepared to do business with each other.

Since then, Salah re-established himself in Italy for Roma, netting 29 league goals in two seasons.

It was odd that Tottenham did not re-ignite their interest in the Egyptian, despite the high £36 million fee which Liverpool paid.

Spurs did not sign a winger in the transfer window, and Salah could have been the missing part of the puzzle for them.

This weekend he can make them regret not challenging Liverpool for his signature.
