Gretar Steinsson is Spurs’ new Performance Director, and it’s fair to say that there is a real sense of intrigue around the Icelander’s new role at Tottenham.
The 40-year-old joined Spurs this summer from Everton, and, in all honesty, we’re not sure what to expect from this hire.
On one hand, Everton have been a shambles in recent years, and the fact that Steinsson is coming from Goodison Park is a worry, but, at the same time, Tottenham have got their backroom recruitment spot on as of late.
The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has done some digging on this front, and he’s given the lowdown on Steinsson while speaking on The Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel.

Eccleshare spoke about Steinsson.
“Generally he did a pretty sound job. The impression I get from everyone I speak to is that he’s straight-talking, just tells it as it is and he’s a workaholic which will sit well with Paratici who is going to report into. He’s got a wide-ranging brief, helping the first-team, the academy side, data analytics and sports science,” Eccleshare said.
Assembling a team
A lot of focus has been put on Spurs’ player recruitment this summer, but the London club are quietly undergoing quite the rebuild behind the scenes.
Simon Davies has joined, Andy Scoulding has arrived and, of course, Steinsson is now a key component behind the scenes.
In modern football, these staff members can be just as important as the players on the pitch, and if they can all work well together, it may not be long before Spurs are challenging for major honours.
