Have Sheffield United given up on signing Blackburn’s Darragh Lenihan and Conor Coady of Wolves as they close in on Spurs youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers?
Cameron Carter-Vickers (L) of Tottenham Hotspur tries to get past Diego Perotti of A.S. Roma.
The 19-year-old has played four first team matches for Spurs to date, but following the club record £38.4m signing of Davinson Sanchez this summer and expected arrival of Juan Foyth, the youngster will be allowed to leave on loan.
Chris Wilder, manager of Sheffield United.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is happy for Carter-Vickers to join the Blades as like the Argentine, Chris Wilder also operates with a three-man central defence.
Wilder is known to be in the market for a centre-back and has already seen bids for Blackburn Rovers’ Darragh Lenihan and Conor Coady of Wolverhampton Wanderers (Express and Star) rejected this summer.
Darragh Lenihan of Blackburn Rovers and Jesse Lingard of Manchester United battle for the ball.
Yet will landing Carter-Vickers end that interest in Lenihan and Coady? After all, the USA Under-23 international’s arrival will take Wilder’s total number of options in the position to five.
Lenihan was catching United’s eye following Blackburn’s relegation to League One, but Sky Sports reported that their latest bid of £1.25m was turned down, while Coady’s departure from Wolves seems more unlikely with the 24-year-old having been a key part of the promotion hopefuls’ set-up this term.
