The Aston Villa player has barely featured despite the club desperate for more goals.
In a recent interview with the Express & Star, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce admitted that he had made a mistake opting not to start either Gabby Agbonlahor or Scott Hogan for the league clash with Derby County, so could the latter know his fate in just a few days?
After all, the Villa boss is unlikely to make the same mistake again, even if Keinan Davis has recovered from illness in time to play a part, and which central striker he opts for could be telling for the other.
Hogan has been overlooked time and again this season, even in the absence of Jonathan Kodjia and Villa pushing hard for promotion.
Bruce’s failure to play Hogan in his best position, with a player like Callum O’Hare behind him, means the former Brentford man has often under-performed when he has been given a few minutes on the field.
Yet with Villa knowing they need to get back to winning ways when they face Sheffield United on Saturday, Bruce cannot afford to make the same mistakes as he did against the Rams.
Hogan can score in the Championship, as he proved prior to his move to Villa Park. But if Bruce opts for Agbonlahor this weekend, leaving the 25-year-old to stew yet again on the bench, it could determine categorically that there is no future for the once prolific front-man at the club.
