Will Rangers be ruing inability to capitalise on Michael O’Halloran interest during January transfer window?

With The Scottish Sun suggesting that Michael O’Halloran has been banished from training by Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha following a no-show for an under-20s game, it appears that the forward’s extremely underwhelming time at Ibrox is destined to end in the near future.

O’Halloran has really failed to get anything going since being signed last January, and if he does not play another game for the Gers’ first-team, his record will read just three goals in 37 games for the club in all competitions.

Understandably therefore, Caixinha may be worried about getting the 26-year-old off the books – should he decide that that is what he wants to do – given his poor record for the Light Blues and this latest incident surely asks questions about his attitude – of course, the reason for O’Halloran’s no-show can only be speculated about at this point however.

Should they struggle to get rid of the forward, the Rangers hierarchy may be left ruing the events of the most recent January transfer window when there was considerable interest in O’Halloran from their Scottish Premiership rivals.

According to the Daily Record, Hearts, Ross County, Motherwell and O’Halloran’s old club St Johnstone were all weighing up a move for the £500,000 signing.

Though the quartet seemed to only be interested in an initial loan deal (via Record), a temporary move could have proved just as beneficial as a permanent exit as it would have given O’Halloran the opportunity to get the number of minutes under his belt he has simply not seen at Ibrox and thus, potentially put himself in the shop window and attract more suitors ahead of the summer.

However, for whatever reason, O’Halloran did not secure the move away and has made just six appearances since the turn of the year, meaning that his value has had no reason to rise whatsoever.

And with this latest development perhaps leaving the potential for previously interested sides to actually be put off a move, it seems that their inability to get him off the books in some capacity in January may now prove somewhat costly.
