Never one to avoid a controversy, Pedro Caixinha has certainly made an impact in his return to Mexican football.
The former Rangers manager was appointed by Cruz Azul on Monday and, just a matter of hours later, left the club’s longest serving player Christian Gimenez baffled by telling him he could leave, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
Such a hard-nosed approach will not come as a shock to Rangers supporters who witnessed countless key players fall out with the ruthless tactician during seven unstable months at Ibrox. Caixinha certainly has his favourites. And Rangers fans may be hoping one of those joins him back in Liga MX.
The former Santos Laguna coach brought Eduardo Herrera to Rangers in the summer, paying £1.5 million to re-sign a striker he worked with during the 2013/14 season, as reported by the Daily Record.
But you could argue that the Mexican international has been the most disappointing of Rangers’ many imported summer signings, netting just twice in 17 appearances in Scottish football.
And with the Daily Record reporting back in October that Herrera was facing an uncertain future after the departure of Caixinha, you wonder how much longer his struggles in Scotland will continue.
