Glasgow Rangers loanee Carlos Pena isn’t enjoying life since leaving Ibrox last month.
It looks like Carlos Pena’s return to Mexico from Rangers has gone from bad to worse.
According to The Daily Record, Pena, who joined Cruz Azul on a 12-month loan deal from Rangers, was booed off by his own fans as he left the field injured during his home debut in the 2-0 home defeat by Necaxa.
Prior to that, the 27-year-old – a £2.7 million signing last summer, according to The Record – had only managed 128 minutes of Mexican football across five appearances under former Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha.
There is a long way to go in his loan spell, but at the moment it looks like Pena has a big job on his hands in order to convince the Liga MX side to buy him outright next January.
Barring a big improvement, it seems very unlikely that the Ibrox side will recoup much of the hefty transfer fee that Caixinha spent on him in July.
It’s also worth noting that the latest defeat has left Caixinha’s side three points off the bottom of the table. It’s not going well for the Portuguese and you wonder what happens to Pena if he is sacked.
Pena, who scored six goals in 15 games for the Gers, never looked like being the influential figure that Rangers needed him to be and the best case scenario for everybody is if he rediscovers his best form for the Mexico City outfit, but that prospect seems increasingly bleak.
