Chelsea have been reported to be targeting Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, and the potential loss of Diego Costa could get the wheels moving.
Everton’s Romelu Lukaku
Despite an excellent season, it could be all change at Stamford Bridge in the summer. According to a report in The Sun, Chelsea are in danger of losing star players Eden Hazard and Diego Costa once the transfer window reopens, with the latter keen to leave because he is sick of the English weather, according to the Daily Express.
Should they lose their star striker this summer, the chances are that Chelsea will go big to make sure his replacement is of the same calibre, and there’s no better choice right now than former Chelsea turned Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, whose manager Ronald Koeman has recently admitted is likely to leave Goodison Park this summer, according to the London Evening Standard.
The Belgian striker, who left Stamford Bridge for Everton in 2014, is currently the Premier League’s top scorer this season, netting 23 times. At just 23-years-old, Lukaku is still one of the most exciting prospects in not just English football, but all of Europe, and Chelsea would be silly not to consider a move for their former striker.
They do say never go back, but that hasn’t been the case for Chelsea over the last couple of years. The Blues have resigned players such as Nemanja Matic and David Luiz, and both players have been excellent since returning to London from their respective clubs.

So is a move for Romelu Lukaku looking likely? If Spanish forward Diego Costa really does leave Stamford Bridge, then we would expect so. The Belgian striker is yet to sign a new contract at Everton, and his ambition to play Champions League football is well known. At this stage in his career, a move to arguably the best side in the Premier League would surely be hard to say no to?
Everton fans will likely be holding out on Diego Costa being unable to find a move abroad this summer, then!
