When West Bromwich Albion signed Grzegorz Krychowiak on loan from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, it seemed the Baggies had pulled off one of the transfer coups of the summer. But unfortunately for the Polish international he is yet to experience a Premier League victory.
While some of West Brom’s summer signings have hit the ground running, Krychowiak has stalled, in no small part due to former manager Tony Pulis’s defensive tactics.
West Brom have not seen the best of Krychowiak because he has played too defensively rather than box-to-box, where he does his best work for Poland.
A slight change in formation and intention could see the 27-year-old explode at The Hawthorns and that should be one of the first things on new manager Alan Pardew’s to-do list.
It is an easy problem to resolve and, in so doing, it could see a player who was once regarded as one of the best in his position in Europe finally get back to that great form.
West Brom fans would be right to suggest the player has not looked interested in recent weeks, but he needs to play for a manager who utilises him effectively and only then will the club get what they thought they had signed.
