The Tottenham Hotspur prospect could benefit from the club’s decision to not sign the Everton midfielder.
Having been linked with him for so long, Tottenham Hotspur have now ended their interest in Ross Barkley, with the Everton midfielder set to join Chelsea instead.
Tottenham were eager to sign Barkley, who is valued at £15 million, last summer but the deal ultimately failed to materialise, as reported by the London Evening Standard.
Barkley would undoubtedly have bolstered Tottenham’s midfield resources if he had joined, but manager Mauricio Pochettino already has an array of creative talents at his disposal in the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Winks, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min.
One positive from not signing Barkley is that Marcus Edwards is likely to now have a better chance of making a breakthrough into the first-team.
Edwards has long been identified as a potential future star, although his progression into the senior setup perhaps has not happened quite as quickly as many have been anticipating.
It is hoped that Edwards, who has scored four goals and provided two assists for Tottenham at U23 level this season, will be given sufficient opportunities to make the breakthrough.
With Barkley not joining, the creative starlet has one less obstacle in his way in his quest to reach the top.
