Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp has delivered some bad news about Liverpool defender Joel Matip.

The Cameroonian will be missing the Reds’ game against West Ham this weekend due to a non-covid related illness, and that’s a blow for the Reds.

Matip has been one of the Merseyside club’s star performers this season, but sadly, he won’t be playing this weekend.

What’s been said?

Klopp was delivering a team news update.

“We have Curtis, it’s not bad, but whether or not he’s good enough to go again tomorrow I don’t know. Joel Matip is ill, no covid, but he will not be available,” Klopp said.

Konate’s time to shine

Being without Matip for a big game against West Ham is a blow, but luckily, Liverpool have another centre-back who is more than prepared to step in.

Indeed, Ibrahima Konate has been brilliant whenever he’s played this term, and as he showed against Manchester United earlier this season, he can cut it against the top teams in the Premier League.

The Frenchman will have a tough task on his hands as he’s forced to keep tabs on Michail Antonio, but he’s passed every test he’s faced so far with flying colours.
