Ben Godfrey has helped Shrewsbury Town to second in League One – and Leeds United should look at the Norwich City-owned teenager again.

Shrewsbury Town’s incredible rise to the top two in League One has not gone unnoticed. According to Sky Sports, the third tier’s surprise packages have welcomed scouts from Swansea City, Southampton and West Brom to the New Meadow this season with their on-loan midfielder Ben Godfrey in high demand.

Sky Sports claim that the Premier League trio have all been keeping a close eye on the 19-year-old, who is at Shrewsbury for the season from Norwich City. The versatile youngster, who can also play at centre-back, has been one of the stars of the show with Paul Hurst’s underdogs sitting just four points adrift of league leaders Wigan Athletic.

But with Championship rivals Leeds United also on the trail of talented young midfielders, will Godfrey be offered another opportunity at Elland Road – the club where he had a trial after being released by Middlesbrough’s academy in his formative years, according to the York Press?

In recent days, Leeds have been credited with an interest in Bolton Wanderers’ Josh Vela (The Mail, below) and Bristol City enforcer Josh Brownhill, as reported by TEAMtalk.

But Godfrey also fits the bill as a fresh-faced talent with plenty of potential, marking him out as a great investment for the future and a player who could improve with opportunities at a Leeds side who set the likes of Lewis Cook and Ronaldo Vieira on their way to stardom.

Godfrey, who has only featured twice for Norwich’s first-team since signing from York in 2015, is likely to attract even more interest before the window opens. But will Leeds be queuing up to finally hand him a chance in West Yorkshire?
