Newcastle United were linked with Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun during the summer transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail, Cenk Tosun’s price tag has already risen by £5.5 million this season – which could leave Newcastle United to regret not making a move for the striker in the summer.

Newcastle were heavily linked with the Besiktas forward last month, with Rafael Benitez’s side scouting the Turkish international.

Besiktas were said to be willing to sell Tosun for £12 million in the summer transfer window, but Newcastle refused to meet that asking price.

And that may be a decision which the Magpies regret, as the 26-year-old’s market value has already increased this season.

Tosun’s performances have caught the eye in the early stage of the campaign, with the striker finding the back of the net three goals in his first five appearances in all competitions.

And it may that Tosun is now outside Newcastle’s price range, following the increase in his asking price.

At £12 million Tosun looked to be a potential bargain, but with his price tag increasing by nearly 50% in under a month, he now appears an expensive addition.

And Newcastle may feel that they have missed their opportunity to bring in Tosun to improve their forward ranks now.
