West Ham United have struggled following the move to their new home.
Good news for Hammers fans this morning regarding a new ruling at the Olympic Stadium, shared exclusively via the club’s official website.
Large flags are now allowed to be brought into the stadium and displayed on match days, with the one caveat being that the message or pictures on the flags must be pre-approved by club officials.
Karren Brady
WHUFC.com lists the below guidelines that need to be followed if any West Ham fan wishes to bring a flag bigger than 2m x 2m into the arena on match days:
- A picture of the flag you wish to display
- Dimensions of the flag
- Confirmation it is manufactured to British Standard and is flame retardant
- Your season ticket seat number
The idea for the new initiative came about after vice-chairman Karren Brady conducted a series of meetings with supporters groups, fan sites and bloggers, in an effort to find out what the fans themselves actually wanted.
The main question now is will the change in ruling make for a better atmosphere at the Olympic Stadium?
General view of the Olympic Stadium
There are football stadiums around the world, such as Anfield and Borussia Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park that seem to have that extra special atmosphere, helped in part by the huge flags banded around their arenas, depicting club legends.
And Hammers fans will be hoping that the addition of larger flags to the Olympic Stadium landscape will make their new house feel more like a home.
