Speaking on his YouTube channel, Express journalist Ryan Taylor has been discussing Newcastle and their interest in Hugo Ekitike.

It may only be mid-June, but this has somehow been one of the longest transfer sagas in recent memory.

Indeed, Newcastle were keen on Ekitike back in January, but the Frenchman reportedly turned down a move to St James’ Park after being advised against the transfer by his parents.

Now, Newcastle are back in for the striker, and just as this deal looked to be done, it reportedly stalled as PSG entered the race for his signature.

Everything seems to be up in the air at the moment with this one, but according to Taylor, Newcastle are still confident about signing the ‘amazing’ striker, stating that things will move quickly once the attacker’s holiday is over.

What’s been said?

Taylor spoke about Ekitike and Newcastle.

“Ekitike, to be honest I’m a bit lost on that one. The information I received earlier in the week indicated that it was still going ahead, but other sources and other journalists aren’t as sure,” Taylor said.

“I think it will still happen, he’s on holiday at the moment, but upon his return things will move quickly. Newcastle are confident they can get a deal over the line, they have a basic agreement in place with Reims, they’re yet to agree personal terms with the player, so that’s one that has to be worked on,” Taylor said.

Conclusion

Taylor says that things will move quickly on the Ekitike front once he’s back from his holiday, and that should be music to every Newcastle fan’s ears.

This constant speculation about Ekitike is very frustrating. One minute the deal is one, the next it’s off, and we’re sure that every member of the Toon Army just wants a conclusion one way or another.

If Ekitike signs, then Newcastle will have gotten a very exciting striker, but if he heads elsewhere, at least Dan Ashworth can work on other targets.
