It’s safe to say Moussa Sissoko’s debut season at Tottenham didn’t work out, with the midfielder making only eight Premier League starts.
He is expected to move on for the sake of his international career, with his place in France’s World Cup squad in jeopardy.
But the way things are developing at Tottenham so far this summer, he could yet be handed a reprieve.

Spurs are yet to make any signings, and injuries are building up ahead of the season opener against his former club Newcastle.
Sissoko has been derided and mocked since moving to Spurs, and many of the detractors have come from his former club Newcastle United fans.
Sissoko did not want to help the club escape the Championship, and his Champions League dream with Spurs fell flat on his face.

With no additions made, Tottenham’s squad looks weaker than it should be, and while they could address it before the season begins, chairman Daniel Levy is notorious for leaving his business late, as with Sissoko last year.
That meant the Frenchman had no pre-season, and with a strong showing early on he could yet ingratiate himself back into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.
At the very least Spurs could elect to delay his sale until the deadline, and even put him in the shop window in the opening few games of the season.
He might just be worth one last shot against his former club Newcastle to see if he can prove a point on his old stomping ground.
Will Sissoko still be a Spurs player when the season begins? Could you see him starting against Newcastle at this rate?
