Dundee centre-back Jack Hendry has shone in the Scottish Premiership – and Championship giants Nottingham Forest should battle Celtic for his signature.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has not hid his admiration for young Dundee centre-back Jack Hendry.
After The Hoops narrowly defeated Neil McCann’s side 1-0 at Parkhead in October, Rodgers lauded Hendry’s ‘excellent’ performance and suggested that he is exactly the type of emerging talent that Scottish football needs.
It came as no surprise, then, when The Mail stated earlier this month that Rodgers was keen to bring the 22-year-old to Celtic, who are crying out for defensive reinforcements in January.
But Celtic face plenty of competition with Newcastle United and Crystal Palace keen. But is Hendry actually the perfect addition for another English side – Nottingham Forest?
Forest’s former Rangers manager Mark Warburton has made good use of the Scottish market since moving to the City Ground, signing Jason Cummings and Barrie McKay while also targeting a January move for St Mirren’s Lewis Morgan, as reported by The Mail.
But he should be fully aware of Hendry’s potential too, the defender starring at Dundee since his summer move from Wigan Athletic.
According to the Nottingham Post, Warburton wants a talented, ball-playing centre-half in the January transfer window with Forest’s defensive record once again proving to be their Achilles heel.
And there are few better affordable options than Hendry, a composed and classy operator who has even been likened to John Stones, the £47.5 million Manchester City star and the most expensive centre-back in English football history.
But with Warburton’s old adversary Rodgers set to make his move, Forest can’t afford to wait around.
