West Ham United fans fell in love with Dimitri Payet during his first spell at the club.

Dimitri Payet of Marseille looks dejected following the UEFA Europa League Final between Olympique de Marseille and Club Atletico de Madrid at Stade de Lyon on May 16, 2018 in Lyon, France.

The Guardian reported in the summer how West Ham United had the chance to snap up Dimitri Payet from Marseille, and Manuel Pellegrini may just wonder what might have been now.

Payet enjoyed a wonderful first spell at West Ham when he became a real fans’ favourite, before forcing a move to Marseille.

The transfer left a sour taste at West Ham, but Payet would surely have been forgiven by the fans if he came back to the London club.

And if Pellegrini had brought Payet back when he had the chance then West Ham could have been so exciting to watch this season.

The Hammers are starting to click into gear, and have picked up some impressive results in recent weeks.

But with Payet’s creativity added to their attack they would have been a terrifying prospect to face.

Payet was one of the Premier League’s most influential creators when he was in England.

And Pellegrini may just look back and think how West Ham could have been even more dangerous if he had pushed for a reunion with Payet.
