Leeds United’s young Bulgarian is looking in fine form for the under-23s and a rival for a striking chance has just left on loan.
When fans talk about exciting young Leeds United strikers, they almost invariably mention Mallik Wilks, but with the 18-year-old heading out on loan until January, there could be a chance for fellow forward Kun Temenuzkhov to stake a claim of his own.
Wilks has been impressing at youth and under-23 level at Elland Road for quite some time, and he made his first-team bow in the FA Cup clash with Sutton United last season. He was also an unused substitute in the Championship game against Reading but he will now continue his development at Accrington Stanley.
That leaves a potential space to be filled, at first for the second string and potentially for the senior side in the cup competitions. And for Kun, it is a chance he will be desperate to seize with both hands.
Wilks was on the bench again as Leeds took on Newport County in the second round of the EFL Cup and his chances will come in due course.
However Kun could see his teammate’s temporary exit as the perfect chance to prove he has what it takes to excel for the Whites, not just at youth level but ultimately for Thomas Christiansen’s first-team squad.
As if to prove his worth, the former Barcelona youngster scored a hat-trick for the under-23s in a friendly against non-league Ossett Town earlier this month, and Leeds fans who have done some digging will know just how highly rated the Bulgarian was at the Nou Camp.
Finding the net three times against a non-league side is one thing, and doing it regularly when it really matters is quite another, but Kun is the real deal and Wilks’ loan move means his younger teammate could have yet another reason to impress in the coming weeks.
