Lucas Moura has started the new season as Tottenham’s best player.
Tottenham attacker Lucas Moura was named on the bench in the defeat to Inter Milan, but his performance as a substitute suggests he may become undroppable in the future if he continues in the same form.
The 26-year-old has made a blistering start to the new campaign by starting all five games in the Premier League, scoring two goals in return and looking Spurs’ most consistent performer.
He was not involved from the start on Tuesday night, as the North London club suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Inter in the Champions League group stages after conceding late on twice.
Moura did enter the action in the second-half and bamboozled the defence of the Italian club on several occasions.
The Brazilian has lightning pace that makes him almost impossible to stop when he is in full flight and the in-form ace surely has to make every Spurs XI in the upcoming important fixtures.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino does of course have a number of talented attacking options at his disposal, but Moura has been the best of the bunch and has to be rewarded.
Moura has looked extremely dangerous in attack alongside centre-forward Harry Kane and can definitely help ease the burden off his teammate in front of goal.
Pochettino should use the speed machine – who earns £75,000-a-week, according to spotrac.com – to spark a response away at Brighton at the weekend.
Spurs still had mainstays such as Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen and Kane on the pitch against Inter despite rotating their team, and Moura may be slipping into that category of too important to omit given his current form.
