Loris Karius has committed his future to Liverpool so can Huddersfield now sign Danny Ward?
Huddersfield manager David Wagner
The latest news coming out of Liverpool should give newly promoted Huddersfield Town hope in their own pursuit of an Anfield star.
Loris Karius’ agent has said that despite reports from the Sun linking the goalkeeper with a summer move to Augsburg, the 23-year-old is staying put with the Reds and fighting for his place.
“There is absolutely nothing to the rumours that Karius will leave,” Florian Goll told Goal.
“He did not sign at Liverpool for the short term – he believes in the vision of the manager and he wants to be fully fit and prepared to fight for the No.1 position from the first day back.”
In turn this should open the door for Huddersfield to bring Danny Ward back to the club as they prepare for their first ever season in the Premier League.
Huddersfield’s Danny Ward at the end of the game
Ward spent the 2016/17 term on loan at the John Smith’s Stadium, playing a key role as the Terriers won promotion by beating Reading in the Championship playoff final.
The ‘keeper himself has admitted that he wants to return to Huddersfield next term, telling the Daily Mail: “Promotion has changed things for me. It is a chance to go and play in the Premier League at a club where you know the place, they know what you’re about.”
Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner celebrates after the game
The same report from the Sun goes on to say that Huddersfield manager David Wagner is also keen to have Ward back and will even pay £5m to secure him permanently.
It was a deal that hung in the balance based on Karius’ future, but with the German going nowhere it might not be too long before Wagner gets his man.
