The Leeds United duo are arguably not of the quality required to stake a realistic claim for long-term top flight football.

Leeds United are currently flying high in the Championship and hopeful of remaining in the play-off places between now and May. But assuming the Whites do return to the top flight in time for next season, will their manager Garry Monk have a rebuilding job to do in the centre of the park?

In time Ronaldo Vieira will be one of the best midfielders in the country, but his teammates Liam Bridcutt and Eunan O’Kane are not of the quality required to survive in the Premier League.

Vieira has proved this season that with youth comes inconsistency so it would be foolish to rely on the teenager’s talent alone if Monk does guide Leeds back to the promised land.

Bridcutt has looked worryingly off the pace in recent matches, while for all his qualities O’Kane is likely to struggle against top flight opposition week in, week out.

Strengthening Leed’s midfield for a Premier League campaign will be an exciting if tough task to have, and for now all the club’s fans will be hoping for is play-off success. But it will be interesting to see which midfielder Monk targets if he achieves his goal.

It will certainly be a better problem to have than the ones Leeds fans have had to contend with in previous years.
