The Leeds United forward has flattered to deceive thus far.

Leeds United player Jay-Roy Grot has the build and the pace of a very exciting footballer. However his end product leaves a lot to be desired and the 19-year-old is still some way from suggesting he can be a long-term option for the Whites.
Considering his age, and the fact that he needs to get used to a new club in a new country, it is no real surprise that Grot is struggling, especially when that is coupled with his failure to build up any momentum due to his bit-part role this season.
Grot’s lack of minutes are not his fault, but he could and perhaps should be doing more when he is sent on in the closing stages of matches.

Still, that may be part of the reason why the Leeds summer signing fluffs his lines more often than not; something that he simply cannot afford to do if he starts against Newport County in the FA Cup next month.
With Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen having a big squad to rotate and a focus on promotion come May, it would be no surprise if Grot is given a rare start in the cup on 7 January, but he cannot follow in the footsteps of last season’s under-performing youngsters, who were embarrassed by Sutton United in the same competition.

Leeds made light work of Newport in the EFL Cup earlier this season and Grot needs to prove his worth against the lower league opponents.
Prior to that match the Dutchman may have to make do with a few minutes here and there, even with the matches coming thick and fast for Leeds. But there should already be one date in his diary when he simply has to perform.
