The Glasgow Rangers midfielder has not done enough this season.

Josh Windass may have scored Rangers’ goal in their 2-1 defeat to Dundee on Friday evening, but the 23-year-old’s overall performance still left a lot to be desired.

Rangers started life under interim manager Graeme Murty in blistering form, but they have lost their last two matches, leaving Gers fans to wonder what has gone wrong and when the board will bring some much needed stability back to Ibrox.

Until that time Rangers need their players to perform consistently, showing the fight needed to get back to winning ways and build up a head of steam this side of 2018.

However, for all his talent, Windass’s lack of fight means he may never win over a large section of Rangers fans, with his latest showing yet another example of his limitations when it comes to a scrap.

Some players get stuck in and get their boots dirty for the good of the team, while others shirk that responsibility and stick to the pretty stuff.

The problem for Windass is that the pretty stuff is few and far between and Rangers need him to fight for every single ball.

That has not been happening this season and one wonders what Rangers’ next permanent boss will make of the player’s contribution off the ball and his desire just when that is what the club need most.

He is still young and has time to work on the weaknesses in his game, but fight should not be taught; it should be an intrinsic part of any good player and Rangers fans know that more than most.
