Will Joe Hart struggle to play another game for West Ham United before his loan ends after Saturday’s FA Cup exit?

West Ham United were dumped out of the FA Cup on Saturday. David Moyes’s side went down 2-0 away to League Two outfit Wigan Athletic in a very poor performance in which nobody – most of all Arthur Masuaku – in claret and blue emerged with much credit.

At 1-0 down, Masuaku was red carded on 49 minutes for allegedly spitting at Nick Powell and it effectively killed off any hope that West Ham had of staging a comeback.

But although Masuaku was the villain of the piece, goalkeeper Joe Hart was somewhat questionable between the sticks again and you wonder if it might be his last game for the Irons.

The Manchester City loanee, signed by Slaven Bilic last summer, lost his number one shirt to Adrian shortly after David Moyes took charge and the Spanish keeper shows no sign of letting it go.

West Ham will not play in any other competition this season aside from the Premier League, which means that it’s entirely possible for Hart to spend the remaining five months of his loan deal on the bench.

Considering Moyes didn’t sign him and doesn’t appear to rate him, it’s probable that West Ham – who are paying £125,000 of his £175k-a-week salary – will not take up the option to keep him in East London.

In truth, he has been a very disappointing addition and although you can’t fault Bilic for trying to sign a goalkeeper of that profile, perhaps a lesser-known but more competent – and cheaper – option would’ve been best.
