Will Ivan Toney be banned? Many have taken to Google to ask about the Brentford No.17 after the FA charged him with a further 30 alleged breaches of betting rules.
The 26-year-old was charged with 232 alleged breaches of betting rules in November shortly before Gareth Southgate announced his 26-man England squad for the World Cup.
In light of his most recent FA charge, there is plenty of confusion about what this might mean for the striker’s future.
So, will Ivan Toney be banned? Let’s take a look…
Will Ivan Toney be banned?
Well, previous incidents of a similar nature suggest Toney is highly likely to receive a ban – in our view.
For example, Kieran Tripper was handed a 10-week ban by the FA as well as a £70,000 fine back in December 2020 for seven alleged breaches of betting rules – as detailed by the Guardian.
Therefore, the fact that Toney has allegedly breached betting rules on well over 200 occasions suggests he is in line for a punishment that is far more severe.

Brentford have released an official club statement on the matter involving their talisman, who has been one of the best performing players in England this season with ten goals in 14 Premier League appearances.
In what was a brief comment, the Bees wrote: “The FA have informed Brentford FC that Ivan Toney has been charged in relation to additional alleged breaches of their betting rules. Our private discussions with Ivan and his legal representatives on this matter continue.
“Ivan has until Wednesday 4 January 2023 to provide a response. We will make no further comment at this stage.”
Interestingly, Brentford are said to already be on the lookout for replacements in case Toney is banned.
That is according to Sky Sports, who believe Director of Football Phil Giles and his Technical Director Lee Dykes are doing their due diligence on potential replacements.
Thomas Frank – Manager of Brentford – commented on the situation earlier today. You can see his thoughts in the tweet below.
It is difficult for Brentford to find a replacement, as Giles and Dykes do not know how long Toney will be out for, should he be found guilty of the alleged betting breaches.
Sky Sports add that Toney is cooperating with the FA investigation and will continue to play for Brentford until told otherwise.
UPDATE: The Brentford No.17 has now accepted the fact he broke betting rules, with the Guardian claiming that he faces months out of action as a result of his actions.
Toney has admitted to some – not all – of the charges, with the Englishman likely to contest a few of the other allegations thrown his way.
