Rangers will know they cannot realistically catch reigning champions Celtic this season. However they should use the second half of the campaign to build for the future, continuing McCrorie’s development while building a long-term partnership with either Cardoso or another player who will remain at Ibrox for the long term.
Alves is clearly not that man and, for all his impressive traits, Rangers may be better off thinking long-term.
