The Glasgow Rangers man has been tipped to leave this winter.

In a recent appearance on BT Sport, Chris Sutton claimed he would not be surprised if Bruno Alves wanted to leave Rangers in January, but would that be such a bad thing?
At first glance Rangers have struggled without the experienced international in their side, but at 36 he is on borrowed time at the top level and the Gers may be better off focusing on the future.

They have already benefited considerably by promoting teenager Ross McCrorie and the 19-year-old is not the only promising young defender on Rangers’ books.
With Fabio Cardoso returning from injury soon, and the January transfer window allowing the club’s next permanent manager a chance to bring in a new face or two of his own, parting company with Alves may ultimately suit all parties.

Rangers will know they cannot realistically catch reigning champions Celtic this season. However they should use the second half of the campaign to build for the future, continuing McCrorie’s development while building a long-term partnership with either Cardoso or another player who will remain at Ibrox for the long term.
Alves is clearly not that man and, for all his impressive traits, Rangers may be better off thinking long-term.
