Leeds United will loan the Japanese player out until the summer but will they still target a short-term alternative?

As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United have agreed a deal to sign Yosuke Ideguchi in January, and will loan him out until the summer due to work permit issues. But what could that mean for their other reported winter targets?

After all, Leeds have been linked with Josh Vela (the Daily Mail) and Josh Brownhill (Team Talk) in recent days and it may be hard to attract one midfielder to Elland Road next month when they will know another is arriving just a few months later, especially when you also factor in the presence of Ronald Vieira, Kalvin Phillips and Eunan O’Kane.

Leeds clearly see Ideguchi as a long-term option at the club and they have allegedly pursued him for some time. Yet it will be interesting to see how his capture impacts their January plans.

In truth Thomas Christiansen’s side should be fine with the midfielders they already have, especially if they opt to bring Mateusz Klich in from the cold.

Instead they should be using the upcoming transfer window to sign an out-and-out left-back and another quality striker, not adding to a central midfield that could be overcrowded when Ideguchi ultimately arrives.
