Will Grigg could be the man to fire Sunderland to promotion if they are able to land him.

The Daily Mail (page 72, January 8th) claim that Sunderland are targeting the Wigan Athletic forward, who has struggled for game time this season.

And if Sunderland are able to land the Northern Irish international then their attack will be improved even further.

Sunderland are on the look out for one more striker, and Grigg effectively guarantees goals at League One level.

In Grigg’s last three seasons in the third tier he has hit 20, 25 and 19 goals.

If Sunderland could have a striker with that sort of record to push them over the line for the second half of the season then they would surely become favourites for promotion.

Jack Ross’ side are currently in third place in the table, but they have games in hand over some of their nearest rivals.

And they should get Grigg to the Stadium of Light as soon as possible, as he would be a wonderful signing.
