Will Everton’s new signing Anton Donkor be another David Henen?

The German winger will hope to have more of an impact at Goodison Park.

Everton have beaten Aston Villa to the signature of German youngster Anton Donkor. The Merseyside club confirmed on their official website today that they had agreed a deal to sign the player on a loan deal, with the German talent heading straight into the under-23 squad.

You can forgive Everton fans if they are underwhelmed.

Because the move strikes some resemblance to that of David Henen back in 2014. The Belgian star arrived on an initial loan deal from Olympiakos before making the move permanent in the summer of 2015.

He arrived with big expectations, but has failed to live up to them. He struggled on loan at Fleetwood Town last season and is now struggling to play any football for the Everton under-23 side.

Donkor, who is yet to make a first-team appearance for his parent club VfL Wolfsburg, seems to have some pedigree but Everton fans are unlikely to get over excited about his arrival just yet.

They did that with Henen, but he has proven to be a let-down and Everton will be hoping Donkor goes on a different path.
