Will Everton take another look at Southampton’s Mario Lemina this summer?
There is every chance that Everton will be in the market for a midfielder this summer.
Morgan Schneiderlin has been a bit of a disaster since joining from Manchester United in January 2017, while Davy Klaassen, who has played one Premier League game since September this season, looks like he has it all to do to prove that he was a good signing last summer.
With that in mind, signing a midfielder wouldn’t be out of the ordinary and should the Toffees look at a man who eluded them less than 12 months ago?
Linked with the Goodison Park side, Mario Lemina joined Southampton in a £16 million club-record deal last summer, but the Gabon international could well be relegated with the Saints, who sit one point above the drop zone.
If that happens, Southampton could not only struggle to keep hold of the former Juventus midfielder, but Lemina might also be available for significantly less than his £16 million price-tag last summer.
If not for Idrissa Gueye, Everton would have a terrible midfield and Sam Allardyce should, if he isn’t already, be exploring options when the transfer window opens.
And will he find a better bargain than a cut-price Lemina if Southampton go down? Probably not.
