Watford boss Marco Silva is reportedly on a four-man shortlist for the job with Premier League rivals Everton.
While the majority of Everton fans would have been forgiven for concentrating on the presence of Diego Simeone on the Toffees’ four-man shortlist for their new manager that was reported by Sky Sports earlier in the week, there is perhaps one player in the current squad who may have liked the links with one of the other names on the shortlist.
According to Sky Sports, Simeone is joined by David Unsworth, Sam Allardyce and Marco Silva. And for Oumar Niasse, it may not be a surprise if the latter is the one he would like to see arrive at Goodison Park.
Niasse has endured a fairly difficult time since moving to Merseyside. After failing to break into the team under Roberto Martinez, he fell out of favour completely under Ronald Koeman and only seemed to earn a reprieve due to the Toffees’ lack of forward options.
The 27-year-old has done well since coming back into the fold this season, scoring five times in eight games in all competitions.
It seems unlikely that the Senegal international will remain the Toffees’ main striker once the next window has passed, but he will surely be hoping that he has done enough to force his way into the next man’s plans.
If that next man proves to be Silva, then you would imagine that Niasse stands a great chance of remaining an important member of the squad, as it was the current Watford boss who arguably launched the forward’s career in the Premier League.
Niasse was Everton’s forgotten man when Silva brought him on loan to Hull for the second-half of last season. And while the Tigers did not stay up, Niasse was one of a number of players who emerged out of that season with some credit for the way his form seemed to give them a chance.
Therefore, it would not be a surprise if Silva getting the Everton job is the outcome that Niasse would prefer.
