Everton-linked Ramy Bensebaini will be leaving Rennes this summer.

Rennes' Algerian defender Ramy Bensebaini poses during the official presentation of the French L1 football Club Stade Rennais FC on September 19, 2017 in Rennes, western France.

Everton’s Marcel Brands will already have his summer transfer targets lined up, and another defender could be on his radar given question marks over Kurt Zouma, Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines.

Zouma is only on loan from Chelsea, whilst veterans Baines and Jagielka are both out of contract in a matter of weeks, meaning they could leave for nothing.

Landing a player who can play at centre and left back could be ideal, bringing additional depth to Marco Silva’s back line – and one player fits the bill.

Last summer, the Daily Star reported that Everton were close to signing Rennes ace Ramy Bensebaini, but the deal failed to materialise as Everton brought in Barcelona duo Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina.

Now, Rennes president Olivier Letang has told Le Figaro that Bensebaini will be allowed to leave this summer, given that his contract has just a year left to run.

That news may just pique Brands’ interest, as Everton could land a major discount on the £13.5million they were allegedly willing to pay less than a year ago.

Bensebaini is primarily a left back, but he has filled in at centre back a number of times over the course of his career, whilst he has plenty of experience for a 24-year-old with 11 caps for Algeria and 36 appearances for Rennes this term.

His versatility is hugely appealing, and if Everton see centre back Jagielka and left back Baines move on, killing two birds with one stone by bringing in Bensebaini could be a smart move from Brands and the Toffees.
