Spanish outlet Sport claimed last week that Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton were very close to reaching an agreement with Barcelona to sign Jean-Clair Todibo in the summer.

The report claimed that the Toffees had offered £17.4 million for the young defender and a deal was expected to be struck ahead of the summer window.

Todibo would certainly have been an exciting signing for Everton. But things could be out of their hands now, with Barcelona allegedly planning something different for their defender.

Sport have claimed today that the Catalans are willing to offer Todibo to Juventus as a part of a deal that would bring Miralem Pjanic to the Camp Nou.

Barcelona have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the former Roma midfielder but a deal is yet to be struck with Juventus.

The Spanish champions initially planned to offer one of Ivan Rakitic or Arturo Vidal in the deal, but the Old Lady are reportedly not interested in either of them.

Todibo could join another player in the deal to bring Pjanic to Barcelona, which is realistic considering that the current financial implications will put clubs in a situation where they cannot spend big money.

Missing out on Todibo would be a huge blow for the Toffees, who seem to have cooled their interest in Gabriel Magalhaes as well.

Ancelotti will have to find another defender who Everton can pursue this summer. However the transfer window is at least a couple of months away and a lot could still change by then.
