Everton were reportedly keen on the services of Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.

Spanish outlet Sport claimed that Everton were looking at potentially bringing in Barcelona keeper Jasper Cillessen this summer, but ESPN have now reported that the Dutchman is set to make a move to fellow Spanish side Valencia.
Given Everton were seemingly in the transfer market for a goalkeeper, and one of their reported targets is heading elsewhere, will they look for other options?
The main man between the sticks for Marco Silva is no doubt Jordan Pickford, but his recent campaign at Goodison Park isn’t something that should be shouted about.
If he starts the next season in a poor fashion then the Goodison Park faithful will be on his back, so is it best that Everton continue with their search for a new goalkeeper because it means that Pickford will have some serious competition next term?
Of course, if the Toffees do dip into the market for a keeper then they are better off buying a player that can challenge Pickford and keep him on his toes rather than someone who will come in to warm the bench.

That was perhaps a problem for Everton last season in that Pickford didn’t have anyone seriously pushing him when he was going through his bad period.
If Pickford can show the form that he produced towards the back end of the recently concluded season then the Everton supporters will be in for a good campaign.
But if his error-prone ways and lack of concentration levels rear its ugly head again then his Everton place, and England number one spot, will come under scrutiny.
