Netting 22 times for Newcastle United this season; striker Dwight Gayle has had an excellent season for the Magpies. After never really being given a proper chance to prove himself at Crystal Palace, Dwight Gayle took the brave move to drop down to the Championship.
And after a goal laden campaign, the striker could soon be a Premier League player yet again, as Newcastle United look set to bounce straight back up to the top flight at the first time of asking. However, Gayle’s season at St James Park hasn’t been without its problems.
A hamstring injury back in January saw the striker miss 18 games during a crucial period for the Magpies, and he has recently picked up another injury which could see the striker out of action for the rest of the season. If there’s one player you don’t want to lose for a prolonged spell, it’s your top scorer.

So could Dwight Gayle’s injury record force Newcastle United into the transfer market this summer? If Rafa Benitez’s side are promoted at the end of the season, they will need to make a proven Premier League goalscorer one of their top priorities.
And despite Gayle’s excellent form this season, there’s a chance Newcastle won’t be able to rely on him for a full season of football next year, if his injury record this season has been anything to go by.
The other forwards at the club have their qualities, but haven’t hinted at the goalscoring capability Gayle has demonstrated this year, either in the top flight or this year in the Championship.
