West Ham United have turned a corner of late under David Moyes but remain very much in the battle for survival.
West Ham have climbed the table in recent weeks with wins over Chelsea and Stoke City and a draw against Arsenal.
The Hammers are still very much in the battle for survival in the increasingly congested Premier League, though.
Moyes has the East Londoners more organised, fitter and more defensively disciplined, a refreshing change for Hammers fans used to watching abject displays over the last 18 months.
There seems to be a new found togetherness and team spirit about the club which is showing in the team’s performances on the pitch.
So has Moyes done more harm than good with his decision to ban any Christmas celebrations at the club.
The likes of Sam Allardyce at Everton have followed suit leading many to question whether Premier League clubs should have them at all in this day and age.
But could it be argued that getting the players together would only help foster team spirit?
With a crucial run of winnable games coming up, some team bonding might bring the players even closer together and help maintain the recent turnaround.
Many feel Moyes’ hardline approach is the right one given West Ham’s underperformance this season.
Hammers fans will be hoping the club can keep up their momentum and don’t need any extra incentive than staying in the big time.
What Moyes doesn’t want – particularly given the fact he only has a short term contract – is to find the headmaster routine loses its impact when West Ham still need at least six or seven wins to secure survival.
