The Glasgow Rangers centre-back should feature more in the coming weeks.

Danny Wilson of Rangers arrives at the ground during the Scottish Championships match between Greenock Morton FC and Rangers at Cappielow Park on September 27, 2015 in Greenock, Scotland.

Over the summer, Pedro Caixinha brought a number of new faces to Rangers including centre-backs Fabio Cardoso and Bruno Alves, leaving Danny Wilson very much on the periphery at Ibrox.

Unfortunately for the Gers boss, his tenure did not last long, with a number of his big-name signings failing to prove their worth.

But could Caixinha’s exit be good news for Wilson, who will have seen Cardoso and Alves under-performing and wonder what he needed to do to get a chance?

Wilson returned to the Rangers’ starting XI for the very first match since Caixinha’s dismissal and he impressed in a 3-1 victory against Hearts, suggesting that he is now set for a prolonged run in the side.

That would be no bad thing, with Wilson and Rangers youngster Ross McCrorie far better options than Alves and Cardoso, who were not delivering long before Caixinha’s exit.

Wilson has had plenty of critics of his own during his time at Ibrox, but he deserves the chance to prove them wrong and he has never been accused of simply not caring.

This could be the boost the Rangers centre-back needs to become an integral part of the club, whoever takes over in due course.
