Despite providing a match winning assist on his debut, the Belgian has since flopped, and given no reason for Spurs to regret missing out.
Now he might just have the stage to do it, when Spurs take on Chelsea at Wembley this weekend in a FA Cup semi-final.
Batshuayi has played second fiddle to Diego Costa all season, but the Spaniard is out of form.
He has just one goal in his last seven games, in which he has gone back to the frustrated Costa of last season, picking up four yellow cards, having received only four in 23 matches beforehand, and 16 goals.
If he is given a start at Wembley, Antonio Conte may give him a short leash.

The Italian has used Batshuayi sparingly, although the FA Cup is one competition where he has had chances, scoring two goals in four matches.
