Earlier this year, Liverpool missed out on a deal for Ricardo Pepi after the striker chose to join Augsburg.
It was CBS Sports who revealed that Jürgen Klopp wanted to lure the United States international away from FC Dallas, but the Bundesliga side eventually wrapped up a club-record €20m (£17m) deal in January.
Surprisingly, Pepi was loaned to Groningen in August, where he has done well, although it seems Augsburg have now decided to cash in on their record signing.
Pepi set for another move after Liverpool snub
Well, it was Fabrizio Romano who shared the shock news about Pepi.
Despite scoring five goals in seven Eredivisie appearances on loan at Groningen, the American “will leave” Augsburg in the summer, according to the reliable Italian journalist.

It is a strange move by Augsburg, who only gave Pepi 16 appearances to prove himself before loaning him out.
The 19-year-old admitted to Voetbal International that he simply struggled to adapt to his first taste of football outside of America, although it is strange that Augsburg have decided to cash in rather than see how he plays after his loan spell in the Netherlands ends.
Liverpool should ask about Pepi
As Romano alludes to, things could change drastically for Pepi if he has a strong World Cup campaign in Qatar.
Therefore, Liverpool would be wise to ask Augsburg about his situation now, and perhaps attempt to strike some sort of ‘first dibs’ agreement if he does soon become one of the most wanted forwards in Europe.
At the age of just 19, Pepi has plenty of time to shake off his struggles in Germany and become a top striker.
Under Jürgen Klopp, a man who has coached the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Mohamed Salah to greatness, we see no reason why the American cannot fulfil his obvious potential.
