Glasgow Rangers host Celtic at Ibrox next week in a huge Scottish Premiership clash which Jozo Simunovic probably isn’t relishing.

Celtic centre-back Jozo Simunovic could be forgiven for watching Rangers 4-1 win over Falkirk this evening with a degree of anxiety.

Jason Cummings bagged himself a first hat-trick for Rangers and, with Alfredo Morelos boasting four goals in his last five games, the Celtic defender wouldn’t be remiss in being worried about next week’s trip to Ibrox.

The 23-year-old has been a shadow of himself for quite some time now, posting a series of unimpressive, rocky performances which make you wonder how he was valued at £7 million as recently as January (Daily Mail).

Of course, Gers boss Graeme Murty might not pair both strikers together next week, but it might well be double trouble for Simunovic if his form is anything to go by.

Simunovic is by no means a bad defender, though he has certainly lost his way and it’ll be interesting to see whether manager Brendan Rodgers trusts him on what could be a massive game in the context of the Premiership.

As of now, the Hoops are only six points ahead of the Ibrox outfit – albeit with a game in hand – and losing to Murty’s side could well allow them a sniff at a title that they thought was lost a long time ago.

There is simply no margin for error, but Simunovic specialises in them at the moment and maybe, just maybe, Rodgers should use a different centre-back combination. He has the options, but whether he has the courage to throw Marvin Compper into a game of that magnitude this early remains to be seen.
