Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has publicly criticised David Moyes before.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths could be among those hoping that David Moyes does not take over from Gordon Strachan as Scotland manager.

Moyes is currently the favourite to be the next man to lead Scotland’s national team, following Strachan’s dismissal earlier this month.

But Griffiths has already had a public dispute with Moyes, following the 54-year-old’s comments just over a year ago.

David Moyes, Manager of Sunderland gives his team instructions during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Sunderland at Emirates Stadium on May 16, 2017 in London, England.

Moyes suggested that he would be interested in taking over at Celtic, while Ronny Deila’s job was on the line.

And Griffiths publicly criticised the former Manchester United manager in the Daily Record for his comments, as he felt that Deila deserved to be shown far more respect from Moyes.

The striker said: “It’s frustrating for us because it’s disrespectful. The gaffer has got a job here and he is doing okay, we are still sitting top of the league.

“So for other managers to say they are interested in the job when there’s a guy still in charge, it’s poor from them.

“The gaffer will just ignore it but us, as players, we get a wee bit frustrated with it.”

Whether Griffiths still feels that Moyes’ actions were uncalled for remains to be seen. But, after working so hard to earn a place as Scotland’s main striker, Griffiths will not want to risk losing his spot in the team again and will hope Moyes bears no grudge over the old comments.
