Long-standing Rangers target Jamie Walker fits the bill for a Nottingham Forest side likely to lose Lewis Morgan to Celtic.
No player in the Championship this season as set up more goals than Nottingham Forest winger Barrie McKay. With seven to his name already, the £500,000 fee they paid Rangers for his signature is looking like more of a bargain by the week, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
So it’s no wonder Forest manager Mark Warburton is looking towards Scotland again for more affordable gems. The Sun (October 16th, page 61) claimed last week that Forest were expected to make an identical £500,000 bid for St Mirren’s Lewis Morgan who, like McKay, is a speedy and creative wideman with an eye for goal.
As it stands, however, it appears that Celtic is the more natural destination for Morgan with the Daily Record claiming that Brendan Rodgers’ side are closing in on a deal for the 21-year-old Scotland youth star.
But with Morgan potentially off the menu, could Celtic inadvertently push Forest towards a long-running Rangers target?
Per the Daily Record, Hearts manager Craig Levein has admitted that Jamie Walker may be on his way out of Tynecastle in January with just a few months until his contract expires and he is allowed to depart for nothing.
Walker is a winger cut from the same mould as Morgan, a left-sided player who enjoyed his greatest ever season in front of goal in 2016/17 with 15 strikes in all competitions.
And while he hasn’t quite recaptured the same form since, Walker would appear to fit the bill for a Forest side on the lookout for young, affordable widemen in the January transfer window.
But with links to Rangers growing cold, will the Ibrox giants former manager Mark Warburton swoop in?
