The talented young Tottenham graduate sat out the United States’ loss to Mexico, but will be hoping to feature against Costa Rica next week.

The US national team suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to rivals Mexico yesterday, ending a four game winning streak for Jurgen Klinsmann’s side in their own country. Young Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers was selected to the senior squad for the first time during the international break, and though he failed to make the match day 18, it is clear that an international debut will be coming sooner rather than later.

Klinsmann played a three man central defence during the defeat to Mexico on Friday night, with Matt Besler, John Brooks and Omar Gonzalez selected in part to try and nullify their opponents’ dangerous attacking players. But it couldn’t save the US from falling to defeat, and the German legend is now set for another dangerous match as he takes his side to Costa Rica still smarting from the result.

Whether Carter-Vickers is given a chance in San Jose, considering the US have had their own struggles against Costa Rica away, only former Spurs favourite Klinsmann knows, but with the 18-year-old’s stock rising this season, the US boss may be eager to tie him to the North Americans this year rather than risk any courting from the English FA between now and the next international break.

Though that is a very unlikely scenario given Carter-Vickers’ obvious commitment to the US, it could be that the young White Hart Lane graduate is given some token minutes by Klinsmann in the match on November 15, depending on the way the game is going, completing a remarkable few months for the Southend-born teenager.
