Did Calvin Miller blow his rare chance for Celtic last night?

Celtic drew 0-0 with Kilmarnock at Parkhead on Wednesday. With one eye on the Scottish Cup final with Motherwell in two weeks, Brendan Rodgers kept several of his heavy hitters in reserve.

There was no sign of Craig Gordon, Kieran Tierney, Olivier Ntcham or Moussa Dembele in the first XI.

With Tierney dropped to the bench, it was a rare chance for Calvin Miller to impress the Northern Irish manager but, unfortunately for the 20-year-old, the chance passed him by completely.

The young left-back struggled in both defence and attack last night and Rodgers can’t have been blown away by him.

Calvin Miller of Celtic scores his team's second goal during The Scottish FA Youth Cup Final between Celtic and Rangers at Hampden Park on April 26, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

It was only Miller’s third Premiership appearance of the season – and first start since August. He doesn’t get many chances to show Rodgers what he can do, by virtue of Tierney’s consistency, and this was a big opportunity wasted.

His contract also expires next summer, so a stand-out performance would have done his chances of an extension no harm at all, but now you wonder whether the Hoops could offer him out this summer to avoid losing him for free.

With Tierney’s future up in the air for entirely different reasons, Miller could have also staked his claim to succeed the highly-rated Scotland international – who is only six months older than him – next season, but the road into Celtic’s first XI has never looked longer for the youngster and this could be the end of his time at Parkhead.
