Sheffield Wednesday had Will Buckley on loan from Sunderland last season, but he made just 11 league appearances.

William Buckley has admitted to the Sheffield Star that he shouldn’t have moved to Sheffield Wednesday.

Buckley joined Wednesday on loan from Sunderland on a season-long loan last year, but he barely featured during his time on Hillsborough.

The winger made just 11 Championship appearances, and failed to make a notable impact at the Yorkshire club.

And Buckley admits that moving to Wednesday was the wrong choice last summer.

“I think Sheffield Wednesday was just the wrong move at the wrong time for me,” Buckley said. “I got a few injuries and just couldn’t get into a really good team. It was frustrating because I felt like I could have contributed more.”

Buckley has now made the switch to Bolton Wanderers, and he will be hoping his time at the Macron Stadium is more productive.

Wednesday, meanwhile, appear to have moved on from their interest in Buckley – with Carlos Carvalhal now having other targets on his radar.

George Boyd is expected to join Wednesday in the near future to strengthen their attacking options, according to a report in the Burnley Express.

Wednesday kick off their season with a match against Preston North End at Deepdale in early August.
