Championship surprise packages Bristol City have made Preston North End’s Jordan Hugill a top target – but he’s perfect for Leeds United.

Bristol City shattered their club transfer record to sign Famara Diedhiou from Angers this summer for £5.3 million, according to the BBC.
Just a few months later, however, they could spend even more on a player who has emerged as one of the Championship’s best over the last year-and-a-half.
According to The Sun (18th December, print edition), Bristol City are plotting a January move for Preston North End frontman Jordan Hugill – and The Robins may be about to blow their Championship rivals out the water.

Surprise packages Bristol City are third in the Championship and, according to the Bristol Post, will be given the money to sign a new striker in the New Year to spearhead an unexpected promotion push.
And the report adds that Hugill, who was the subject of an £8 million bid from Reading in August, could become the club’s new record signing – even though Preston are determined to keep last season’s 12-goal top scorer at Deepdale.
These reports, however, are bad news for Leeds United – with the fans clamouring for a proven Championship goalscorer to lead them back into the promotion race.

The Birmingham Mail stated in the summer that Leeds were interested in the powerful Hugill, and he appears to be the sort of line-leading centre-forward that the club are crying out for with summer signings Pierre Michel-Lasogga and Caleb Ekuban yet to fully convince. Noel Whelan, the former Leeds striker, even told Radio Leeds last week that the 25-year-old was the perfect signing in January.
Leeds, however, appear unlikely to challenge Bristol City for the Middlesbrough-born striker as long as fees of over £8 million are being thrown around.
