Marcus Antonsson could not stop scoring for Blackburn Rovers in November but what does his future at Leeds United hold?
It’s taken far longer than anyone would have hoped but it appears that Marcus Antonsson has finally arrived in English football.
The predatory poacher arrived at Elland Road last season as the top scorer in Swedish football, costing Leeds United £2 million from Kalmar FF, according to the YEP. But despite a bright start to life in West Yorkshire, Antonsson plummeted down the pecking order under Garry Monk and finished his debut season with just six league starts.
But it appears that a loan spell at Blackburn Rovers could be the making of Antonsson. A strike in the 4-2 midweek win away at Blackpool was the in-form striker’s fifth of November alone – meaning he surely deserves nomination for the League One Player of the Month award.
In fact, his performances have been so impressive for Rovers that a number of Leeds fans have taken to social media to demand he return ahead of schedule in the January transfer window with the strikers current at the club’s disposal rather flattering to deceive.
As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, however, there is no re-call clause in Antonsson’s contract – which is great news for Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray, who has lauded the striker’s hard-work, finishing ability and impressive ambidexterity.
But with Antonsson arguably League One’s standout player of the last month, he could not do anymore to earn a second chance at Elland Road.
